Do you know Gaila, aka Momma G? Gaila grew up right here in Rockwood, she remembers walking to the Fred Meyer that used to be located where her business now sits. When her mother passed, her cousins encouraged her to start making her mother’s recipes, especially the African Peanut Soup. Her loving husband Dean encouraged her to take her family recipes to the Mt. Hood Community College Farmer’s Market. When the COVID pandemic shut the market down, Gaila’s business went with it. Gaila wasn’t going to go down without a fight, when she heard that the Rockwood Market Hall was seeking small restaurant owners, she jumped at the opportunity. Opening her brick and mortar restaurant in 2022, she has been bringing delicious sandwiches, her family soup recipes, gluten free desserts and other fantastic recipes to the Rockwood neighborhood. “I was born to make soup and make people smile,” she says.
